How information is obtained
Sources of personal information
We may obtain personal information directly from you when you email or write to us, submit a complaint or rights request, or complete an application form.
Technical information may be produced automatically when you visit the website. We may also receive limited information from service providers, regulators, professional advisers or a lender or broker where this is necessary and lawful.
If information is obtained from another source, we will provide the required privacy information within the applicable period unless an exemption applies.
Why we use information
Purposes and lawful bases
The lawful basis depends on the purpose and circumstances. The lawful bases relevant to these activities are set out below.
Sharing information
Who may receive personal information?
Service providers and authorities
- Hosting, website, email, security and other technology suppliers acting under appropriate instructions.
- Professional advisers, auditors and insurers where reasonably necessary.
- The FCA, Financial Ombudsman Service, ICO, courts, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities where required or permitted.
- Another organisation where needed to protect rights, prevent harm or meet a legal obligation.
Lenders and other credit brokers
Money Trumpet may share application information with a lender or another broker suited to the applicant’s requirements. That organisation normally acts as a separate controller for its own checks, decision and offer and should provide its own privacy information.
Money Trumpet may also use secure technology providers to route an application, subject to appropriate contractual and security controls.
International transfers
Use outside the UK
Where a service provider processes personal information outside the UK, we assess the transfer and the safeguards required.
If personal information is transferred outside the UK, we will use an applicable adequacy regulation, approved contractual safeguards or another lawful transfer mechanism and provide the required information about that protection.
Security
Protecting information
We use proportionate organisational and technical measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a secure device and contact us promptly if you believe information connected with Money Trumpet has been misused.
Retention
How long information is kept
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was obtained, and to meet legal, regulatory, accounting, security or dispute-resolution requirements.
- The retention period for an application or referral depends on its purpose, outcome, the organisations involved and applicable legal or regulatory requirements.
- Complaint records and the measures taken to resolve them are retained for at least three years from receipt, in line with the FCA complaint-record rule applicable to this service.
- Support, correspondence and rights-request records are reviewed against the purpose, any continuing issue and applicable legal requirements.
- Technical logs and cookie information follow the documented schedules of the approved suppliers and the final cookie audit.
At the end of the applicable period, information will be securely deleted or anonymised unless a lawful reason requires longer retention. Retention periods are reviewed with relevant service providers and documented within operational records.
Credit decisions
Automated decision-making
Money Trumpet is a credit broker, not a lender. It does not carry out a credit search, affordability assessment or lending decision and does not currently use personal information to make a solely automated decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
A lender or another broker may conduct checks or use automated processes under its own privacy notice and should provide the relevant information about that processing.
Providing information
Required and optional fields
The relevant application form identifies information needed to process the requested referral and any optional information. If required information is not provided, we may be unable to pass the application to a lender or another broker for consideration.
The service is intended for people aged 18 or over who are permanent UK residents. It is not directed at children.
